How Jesus saved Vivien My first encounter with the Creator occurred when I nearly lost my leg - literally! (This fall affected the growth of my leg and left me with a slight curvature of the spine and one leg 3/4" shorter than the other.) I returned home from Sunday School and ran excitedly down a slippery, stony pathway to my home, holding tightly onto a Bible-stamp book and my first stamp. A single stamp was given to each child for each Sunday school attendance and if a child collected 50 stamps within the year a free Bible was given out. (You were allowed two weeks absence for holidays.) I had 49 stamps, one short of a free Bible and I needed the next Sunday's stamp to qualify for a Bible for that particular year - but mother had other plans - we had to visit Grandma and I missed my stamp, so my mother bought me a beautifully illustrated Bible (which I still have in my possession) to make up for the Sunday school loss. I was around eight years of age. Sunday School must have taught me something about sin, because I remember on two occasions (as a child) my mother caught me lying and made me swear with my hand on the Bible that I was telling the truth. She wasn't fooled and my punishment on those occasions (for I was lying under oath) was to stand in our hallway for an hour.
